After the successful pilot program in 2013 a new project was organised in 2014. The project took place at Papaya Academy in Manila's squatters area, around the enormous dump side Payatas.
Papaya Academy is a Kalinga Project. Kalinga is a Dutch NGO that provides structural support to children and their families living in the vast Payatas garbage dump on the outskirts of Manila. Over 30,000 people live on this mountain of waste, and they survive by collecting and separating aluminium, plastic and cardboard waste. Children are often required to work from a very young age. For most children there is no hope of a different future - a better future.
In 3 weeks time 57 students of grade 4, 5 and 6 were trained by Marieke and Carmen. The training was focussed on healthy lifestyle, hygiene & pubert.
